How long does the process take?

What is a nexus letter and why does it matter?
A nexus letter is a medical opinion from a doctor stating that your condition is "at least as likely as not" connected to your military service. The VA requires this specific language. What is a C&P exam?
A Compensation & Pension (C&P) exam is a medical evaluation ordered by the VA to assess your condition. The examiner's report has enormous influence on your rating. Can I use Forged if I already have a rating?

What is the PACT Act?
The PACT Act (2022) expanded VA benefits for veterans exposed to toxic substances — burn pits, Agent Orange, radiation, and more. It created new presumptive conditions, meaning you no longer have to prove service connection for many conditions if you served in qualifying locations or time periods. If you served in Southwest Asia after 1990 or Vietnam-era, you likely qualify.
Is this different from using a VSO?
VSOs (Veterans Service Organizations like the DAV or American Legion) provide free claims representation but typically have heavy caseloads and limited time per veteran. They file based on what you give them.
